Jorhat (Assam), Nov.14 (ANI): On the occasion of Children’s Day (Nov.14), students here took out a public awareness rally on child rights.

The country marks Children’s Day on the birthday of first prime minister Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru known for this affection towards children. The nation celebrated Nehru’s 120th birth anniversary on Saturday.

Hundreds of students carried banners and placards with ‘Awareness on Child Rights’, ‘Let me live’, ‘Stop child trafficking’ and ‘Stop child abuse’ written on them.

Jasmine, one of the participants in the rally, said: “We have heard and learnt about the child rights, to spread the rights and to make the people aware of the child rights, let our actions speak and let our slogans ring loud and clear to the society.”

The school children also distributed leaflets to create awareness on child rights.

“The students of Bosco Institute are organising this rally basically to show their personal commitment in a public way to the human rights and particularly on this day to child rights to promote wherever it’s abused,” Jerry Thomas, Director of Bosco Institute, said.

Known for his fondness of children, Nehru is often referred to as Chacha Nehru or, children’s uncle. (ANI)
