Strictness prevents Ewan McGregors kids from turning into spoiled bratsSeptember 26th, 2008 - 5:17 pm ICT by ANI
London, Sept 26 (ANI): Ewan McGregor makes sure that his three children dont turn into spoiled brats by keeping a strict approach to parenting.
The 37-year-old Scot, whose films include Star Wars and Trainspotting, believes that letting kids capitalize on parents success or wealth could spoil them.
Giving kids whatever they want is disastrous parenting. Theres no sense of something earned, the Daily Express quoted him, as saying.
Despite their riches, Ewan and his wife Eve are determined not to pamper their two girls, Clara, 12, and seven-year-old Esther or their adopted seven-year-old daughter, Jamiyan.
Im sorry but when youre 12 you dont need a new mobile phone every few months just because a new one comes out, said Ewan.
Im not going to buy her the latest phone, Im not going to buy her an iPod every time one comes out and Im definitely not going to buy her a pony.
As a result, my kids dont want for very much.Theyre not greedy. Theyre wonderful, wonderful children.I see a lot of kids getting whatever they want.
But saying No helps. Thats what parents dont understand. If you want to produce really horrible, obnoxious kids, say Yes to them all the time, he added.
Ewan and his wife are extremely proud that their kids are so well adjusted.
Weve worked hard to keep them insulated from all the celebrity stuff and they are quite unbothered by what I do, said Ewan.
What they care about is what all kids care about: their friends, feeling safe, feeling loved and being free to express who they are.
Weve set good boundaries for them. Manners, being polite those are aspects that are overlooked by parents these days and I think they are essential, he added. (ANI)
