Sri Ram Sene will not find any takers in Goa: Naik
March 17th, 2009 - 7:10 pm ICT by ANI Panaji, Mar 17 (ANI): Criticising the Sri Ram Sene (SRS) for its conservative ideology, Goa Home Minister Ravi Naik, on Tuesday said the State Government would not permit the saffron activists to set up its base here.
Talking to the reporters here, Naik said, “The SRS will not find any takers here in Goa. We will not hesitate in banning the outfit.”
“These kind of outfits should be nipped in bud. If they intend to indulge in moral policing here, they would be dealt very seriously,” he added.
Naik’’s statement has come after the SRS chief Pramod Muthalik’’s announcement rally at Vengurla in Maharashtra’’s Konkan Region last week, in which he expressed interest in starting a branch of his outfit in Goa.
Condemning the outfit for attacking men and women in a Mangalore pub, Naik said, “Women are as free as men to decide what they want. Who are we to indulge in moral policing?”
Muthalik, on Monday, was even banned from entering Dakshina Kannada district for a year. Mangalore is the headquarters of Dakshina Kannada district.
A group of 40 activists of the Sri Ram Sene had barged into a pub in Mangalore on January 24 and bashed up a group of young women and men, claiming the women were violating traditional Indian values. Muthalik had also threatened to disrupt Valentine’’s Day celebrations. (ANI)
