Lucknow, Mar 18(ANI): Cricket-themed-firecrackers are in huge demand in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, as the ongoing cricket World Cup is coinciding with the festival of colours, Holi.

Fans usually burst firecrackers when India win matches, but this year the World Cup is coinciding with Holi and therefore, shops and fans are stockpiling them for both occasions.

Wahid Ali, a customer, said: “The World Cup is being celebrated like a festival because it is coinciding with Holi. That’s why we are purchasing crackers because it feels great when we play with fireworks to express our joy”

Sellers said the demand for firecrackers is so high that it seemed as though Diwali, which is usually celebrated in October or November, is round the corner.

Sachin Jain, a fireworks seller, said: “People are using fireworks for the World Cup. There are lots of varieties of fireworks in the market due to the huge demand from customers’ side”

In India, cricket is considered a religion and cricket stars are revered like gods.

India will take on the West Indies on March 20 at Chennai’s M.A. Chidambaram Stadium.

This year, Holi will be celebrated on March 20. (ANI)
