Special court orders medical test to determine Kasab’s age
April 24th, 2009 - 5:39 pm ICT by ANIMumbai, Apr 24 (ANI): A special court on Friday ordered an inquiry to determine the age of Mohammed Ajmal Amir Kasab, the only survivour attacker of Mumbai terror attacks, by April 28.
The court’s order came after Kasab claimed to have been a minor at the time of Mumbai carnage.
Judge M. L. Tahiliyani said a radiologist and a forensic dentist would examine Kasab. Tahiliyani has also allowed special public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam to examine witnesses comprising doctors and jailor.
If the inquiry establishes that Kasab is juvenile, then the case will be transferred to the juvenile court. The maximum punishment prescribed under Juvenile Justice Act is maximum three years.
The judge ordered the tests to be completed by April 28. The trial is to resume on May 2. (ANI)
