Solve Kashmir problem through justice and humanity: BJP
April 13th, 2011 - 5:40 pm ICT by IANS
Srinagar, April 13 (IANS) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Wednesday said it wanted the Kashmir problem to be solved through “insaaf and insaniyat” (justice and humanity) and was willing to meet everybody during the visit of its team to this city but would not “knock at anybody’s door”.
“We are here after the BJP decided to send a high powered committee to study the Jammu and Kashmir situation,” senior BJP leader Rajnath Singh told journalists.
When asked whether the visiting BJP team would call on the separatist leaders as well, he said: “We will not knock at anybody’s door, but will speak to everybody who comes to meet us.”
The BJP, the former party chief said, considers Jammu and Kashmir an integral part of India. “This fact is non-negotiable.”
“When the people suffer in Kashmir, the pain is felt not only by them alone but by the entire nation,” he added.
According to the BJP leader, there were allegations of discrimination both in Jammu and in Kashmir.
“We have come here to find the facts and ours is a fact finding committee. We shall also visit the Ladakh region,” the leader said, adding that the report of the committee would be submitted to the party president.
When asked about the BJP’s stand on contentious local issues like the revocation of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) or the issuance of Dogra certificates to residents of Jammu region, Rajnath Singh said the issues had to be studied by the visiting team before a comment could be made.
Rajnath Singh said the team had met 25 delegations during its two-day stay in Jammu; 15 delegations had so far registered their request to meet the team during its stay in summer capital Srinagar.
Amongst those in the BJP team are Ravi Shankar Prasad and Shahnawaz Hussain.
