Social Justice and Empowernment Ministry utilizes over 97 percent of 2010-11 plan budget
April 3rd, 2011 - 8:38 pm ICT by ANINew Delhi, Apr 3(ANI): Union Social Justice and Empowerment Ministry has utilized 97.2 percent of its allocated budget of Rs.4300 crores (revised estimates) for the financial year 2010-11.
“A total expenditure of Rs.4178.06 crores was incurred during the year on various welfare schemes of the Ministry meant for Scheduled Castes, Other Backward Classes, Persons with Disabilities, Senior Citizens and victims of substance abuse,” the Ministry said in a statement.
“The largest portion of the plan funds was spent on schemes for the development of Scheduled Castes. A sum of Rs.3327 crores was utilized for these schemes which include the Post-Matric Scholarship for SC students (Rs.2097 crores) revised in July last year.”
“The other schemes of SC development included Special Central Assistance to SC Sub-Plan (Rs.587 crores), hostels for SC boys and girls (Rs.188 crores) and Pradhan Mantri Adarsh Gram Yojana for integrated development of 1000 SC majority villages on pilot basis (97 crores),” it added.
The Ministry also said that a sum of Rs.465 crores was spent on schemes relating to the Other Backward Classes (OBCs) of which a large part (Rs.353 crores) was spent on Post-Matric Scholarship scheme for Backward Class students.
“A sum of Rs. 314 crore was spent during the year on the schemes relating to the Disability sector. Similarly, a sum of Rs. 60 crore was spent on Social Defence sector which include Scheme for prevention of Alchoholism and Substance (Drug) abuse and Integrated Programme for Older Persons,” the Ministry said.
