Smuggling of drugs and arms on the rise at Indo-Pak border

Gurdaspur, Aug.19 (ANI): The smuggling of heroin, arms and ammunition appears to be on the rise along the India-Pakistan border with two incidents of illegal smuggling surfacing on Monday and Tuesday.
On Tuesday (Aug.18), the Border Security Force recovered a huge haul of heroin at the Bohar Wadala border outpost in Gurdaspur District.
According to BSF Inspector General (Frontier) Himmat Singh, BSF personnel head constable G.C. Sharma and constables Parveen Kumar and U.K. Bral were alert enough to seize the consignment.
IG Himmat Singh said the man responsible for bringing in the consignment managed to escape. He described the haul as the biggest.
Singh said that the BSF has so far recovered 103 kilograms of heroin this year. He said 106 kilogram was seized last year.
He said heroin is being converted from opium produced in Afghanistan.
Meanwhile, in a separate development, security personnel recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition from a militant hideout near the Rattan Pathri post on the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district.
The forces recovered 1.5 kilograms of RDX, 10 AK magazines, 806 AK rounds, 307 Sniper Rounds, 13 UBGL Grenades, 3Kenwood Radio Sets, Antenna 5 No., 9mm Chinese Pistol, 11 IED initiators and 1.5 Kg unidentified explosive.
Security forces had earlier also made similar recoveries in Poonch area on May 31, June 02, June 09, June 30,July9, July 27 and Aug.1, but could not nab any militants. (ANI)
