S.M.Krishna promises Buddhi’s family further assistance

October 29th, 2009 - 7:41 pm ICT by ANI Tell a Friend -

New Delhi, Oct. 29 (ANI): External Affairs Minister S M Krishna has met Vikram Buddhi’s family and has promised the latter’s father that the Ministry of External Affairs will request United States Ambassador Meera Shankar to talk to Eric Holder, US Attorney General, to review the Buddhi case.

Indian American student Vikram Buddhi is languishing in an American jail for allegedly writing an anti-Bush remark on the Internet.

In a letter written from jail, Buddhi has said that he doesn’t want to give up.

Vikram Buddhi, was once a brilliant PHD student at Purdue University. He was convicted by a US court in 2006 but has not been sentenced since then.

“I can assure the family that I will see that the Indian mission (in Washington) takes due interest in the case. A fair trial is to be given to Mr Vikram Budhi,” Krishna had said earlier this month.

“I hope that Vikram Budhi will come out innocent of the charges levelled against him innocent,” he had added then.

Krishna’s assurance should bring relief to Capt. (retd.) B K Subbarao, the scholar’s father. The family alleges that Vikram’s trial was not transparent and the jury was not clearly instructed in the case. The family claims there is no clear evidence against him. (ANI)
