Noshehra Pannuan village (Tarn Taran) (Punjab), Oct. 9 (ANI): Indian shooter Gurpreet Singh’s success at the ongoing XIX Commonwealth Games in New Delhi has brought a wave of cheer among his native villagers in Punjab’s Tarn Taran district.
Gurpreet’s family members and residents at Noshehra Pannuan village are overwhelmed with joy that he won two gold medals and one bronze in the Games.
Delighted family members and villagers danced and distributed sweets in the village.
Kirandeep Kaur, Gurpreet’s younger sister, was in tears on her brother’s success. He did not visit home this year on the occasion of Rakhi.
But, Kirandeep said, she now could understand Gurpreet’s commitment and determination to win.
“Now I am eagerly waiting to meet my brother,” she said.
Ecstatic at their son’s triumph, Charnjit Kaur, the mother of Gurpreet, and father Manjit Singh, who runs a welding workshop, said that it was due to the almighty’s blessings that their son could bring glory to the nation.
Gurpreet’s father Manjit Singh, said, the entire credit for Gurpreet’s success goes to the Indian Army, which trained him.
Some other family members of Gurpreet are also in the Indian security forces, he informed.
“Gurpreet made our village shine in the Global map”, said Gurpreet’s uncle Ranjit Singh.
The large number of villagers, who turned up at Gurpreet’s house to convey their greetings, said that they would celebrate the victory of Gurpreet in a big way once he returns to his native village after the Commonwealth Games.
Gurpreet Singh joined the army in 2004 as a sepoy and was promoted to the rank of Havaldar (Sergeant)
Located about 20 kilometres (km) from Tarn Taran, Noshehra Pannuan is a border village. (ANI)
