Shoaib ban effect: Imran Khan demands PCB’s dissolutionApril 3rd, 2008 - 5:04 pm ICT by admin
Islamabad, Apr 3 (ANI): Criticising the Pakistan Cricket Board for imposing a ban on pacer Shoaib Akhtar, Cricketer-turned politician Imran Khan on Thursday urged the new Pakistani Government to dissolve the cricket board.
On Tuesday, the PCB imposed a five-year ban on Shoaib for repeatedly breaching the players’ code of conduct.
The tragic incident of banning Akhtar reflects how undemocratically cricket is run in this country and I think this is an ideal time for the new government to fix it, Khan told a foreign news agency.
Holding President Pervez Musharraf responsible for making Pakistan a banana republic, Khan said that PCB chairman Nasim Ashraf, who has been appointed by the boards patron Musharraf, has made the cricket board a sort of banana republic.
Khan went on to say that Shoaib has much to offer to Pakistan Cricket.
A fit Akhtar is still head and shoulders above other Pakistani bowlers and he still has a lot of cricket left in him if he keeps himself fit, said Khan, chief of his political party, Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaaf. (ANI)
