Shivraj Patil speaks to Maharashtra CM over death of UP youthOctober 29th, 2008 - 7:07 pm ICT by ANI
New Delhi, Oct 29 (ANI): Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil today spoke to Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh following the incident of beating of a youth from Uttar Pradesh to death, in a local train in Mumbai.
Patil spoke to Deshmukh amidst suggestions from the Centre that the state administration should remain cautious and alert to possibilities of attacks on north Indians in the state, in the wake of death of a youth from Bihar in a police shootout on Monday.
Minister of State for Home Shakil Ahmed said that Maharashtra should be extra careful since these are very sensitive times.
Maharashtra Government has informed the Centre that the death of the UP migrant was due to clash between two groups of youngsters on seating arrangement in a local train, he added.
A Home Ministry spokesman said that details have been sought from the state government about the incident.
Dharamdev Rai, 25, and his three friends were attacked by eight-ten people when they were on their way to Kurla.
One of them claimed that they were attacked by a group of Marathi-speaking youths who abused them for taking up jobs in Mumbai.
Rai was admitted to the Dubey Hospital, but succumbed to his injuries.
The tragic incident comes after a youth from Bihar Rahul Raj was gunned down by the Mumbai Police on Monday after he had allegedly hijacked a bus at Kurla saying he wanted revenge against Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray. (ANI)
