Shivraj Patil for increase in CISF strength to counter terrorism

Indrapuram, Mar 10 (ANI): Addressing office and personnel of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) on the occasion of the forces Raising Day at Indrapuram today, Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil announced that the Government had plans to increase CISF strength and update paramilitary forces to tackle terrorism.
He said the government had no intention of compromising on security and would do whatever is needed to enhance the capability of the paramilitary forces.
He also advised the paramilitaries to imbibe new-age technology as a “force-multiplier” to tackle the menace of terrorism.
“To disrupt the development of the country, terrorists use technology. If our forces are not technically up-to-date, they will not be able to ruin the enemies’ designs,” Patil said.
Lauding the CISF, Patil said: Many countries have shown their interest in deputing our personnel on their territory.
Patil said the responsibility of the force is increasing day-by-day to provide national security due to some non-social factors.
CISF Director General R K Das said, The force is providing security to critical infrastructure of the country.
The 1.05 lakh-strong forces is presently protecting 272 undertakings, including Taj Mahal, Red Fort and Delhi Metro besides 54 airports, and providing fire cover to 77 installations. 5,884 cases out of 7,083 cases reported from 152 units were handed over to the respective managements, while 1,199 were handed to the police. In different incidents, CISF officers apprehended 1,297 criminals and recovered property worth Rs 6.31 crore.
The CISF personnel have also recovered unclaimed property worth Rs 11.34 crore of which items valued at Rs 4.48 crore were given back to the owners and the rest handed over to the Airports Authority of India. (ANI)
