Shivraj Patil briefs PM about security situation in the country

New Delhi, July 27 (ANI): Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil on Sunday briefed Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh about the security situation in the country.
He was accompanied by senior officials of the Home Ministry.
Earlier, Patil reviewed the law and order situation in the country following the serial blasts in Ahmedabad and Bangalore in the last two days.
The security review meeting of relevant government institutions and officials took place to establish the cause behind the Ahmedabad and Bangalore blasts, and to mull what steps were needed to counter this menace.
The meeting was attended by Cabinet Secretary K. M. Chandrasekar, Home Secretary Madhukar Gupta, Director Intelligence Bureau P. C. Haldar, Delhi Police Chief Y. S. Dadwal and other senior officers.
The meeting was second of its kind since last week when the Home Ministry had gone into the security scenario in the country and issued advisories to various states asking them to be on high alert.
Senior BJP leader L. K. Advani has left for Ahmedabad to review the situation after the blasts.
All state capitals have been put on high alert and security at the market places, bus and railway stations have been increased.
A team of NSG commandos and bomb disposal squads have been sent to Ahmedabad by the Centre.
The Centre assured the Gujarat government that all possible help will be extended to them to deal with the situation. It has also decided to convene a meeting of State Home Secretaries and Police Chiefs soon to discuss in detail the measures to control such terrorist acts in future.
The serial blasts in Ahmedabad have been widely condemned which left 45 persons dead and scores of others injured. Condemning the blasts the United States termed them as vicious terrorist attacks.
The President, the Vice President, the Prime Minister, the UPA Chairperson and the leader of the Opposition are among those who strongly condemned the terror attacks. (ANI)
