Shiv Sena’s Shraddha Jadhav elected new mayor of Mumbai

Raj Thackeray Mumbai, Dec 1 (ANI): The Bombay Municipal Corporation (BMC) today elected its second consecutive woman as mayor. Shraddha Jadhav of the Shiv Sena-BJP alliance won the battle for the coveted post.

Jadhav got 114 of the total 225 votes.

The Congress-NCP alliance could manage only 95 votes.

Six MLAs abstained from the voting process.

Earlier in the day, the Congress-NCP and Shiv Sena-BJP alliances locked horns to elect the mayor and deputy mayor of Mumbai.

The Samajwadi Party had already announced it would not be a part of the voting process.

Raj Thackeray’s MNS also avoided the mayoral elections with six of its corporators not taking part in the voting process.

In the 228-member house, Shiv Sena had 81 corporators, BJP 29, Akhil Bharatiya Sena 2 and 3 Independents. Congress has 77, Nationalist Congress Party 14, Samajwadi Party 7, and RPI 3. (ANI)
