Amravati (Maharashtra), Dec. 15 (ANI): Hoards of angry Shiv Sena staged a violent protest here on on Monday in front of the residence of Mahesh Deshmukh, a lawyer who had agreed to defend the case of Ajmal Amir Kasab, the lone captured militant of Mumbai attack.
Protestors not only raised slogans against the lawyer but also torched his property.
Mahesh Deshmukh, a lawyer from Amravati district had agreed to defend the terrorist against the charges being leveled against him.
Describing the lawyer as a traitor, protestors alleged that the lawyer is fighting Kasabs case merely to gain publicity>
Someshwar Pusadkar, District Chief of Shiv Sena, said: In our country like India, Mahesh Deshmukh is a traitor. It is only because of such people that Pakistanis have dared to attack our country. The lawyer is planning to fight the case of Kasab (Ajmal Amir Kasab, the lone captured militant of Mumbai attack) only to gain publicity. But he has to move to Mumbai to file an application in session court. We will not let him to do so.
Addressing the reporters after the incident, Mahesh Deshmukh said that since the constitution and international law permits all foreign nationals arrested in another country a right to seek consular access, he had planned to defend the case of Kasab.
He added: In the democratic process a set of legal procedures are followed. The trail will be held according to the charge sheet filed by the police and the court will decide the fate of Kasab.
Kasab is the lone terrorist caught alive by the Police and is under police remand till December 24.
He was one of the ten terrorists who struck two luxury hotels and other landmarks in Mumbai on November 26 terror attacks.(ANI)
