Mumbai, Oct 1 (ANI): The Bombay High Court on Thursday granted bail to Bollywood actor Shiney Ahuja, who has been in judicial custody for over three months for allegedly raping his domestic maid.
Ahuja has been granted bail on submitting a surety of Rs 50,000.
The prosecution on Wednesday argued that Ahuja, being an influential person, may tamper with the evidence if given bail.
“The trial could be over in six months, as it is before a fast-track court,” said additional public prosecutor Sangeeta Shinde.
The actor has been charged under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) Section 376 with rape, along with wrongful restraint and intimidation.
He was arrested on June 15 after preliminary medical tests on the girl confirmed sexual assault.
Mumbai police had said the actor had admitted to making a mistake by having consensual sex with the maid who has levelled allegations of rape against him. (ANI)
