Seven Cricket bookies arrested in Udaipur
March 25th, 2011 - 4:29 pm ICT by ANIUdaipur, Mar.25 (ANI): The Rajasthan police have arrested seven people from Udaipur for their involvement in betting on cricket matches.
Acting on a tip off, the police conducted several raids in the city on Thursday and seized money and mobile phones from the bookies.
Tejraj Singh Assistant Superintendent of Police, Udaipur said: ” As soon as we got the information, we went to their houses and searched them thoroughly and found around 356425 rupees in cash. We have also seized a register, mobile phones and other articles used for betting on cricket matches.”
Six of the bookies who have been arrested are from Udaipur and one belongs to Bihar.
The Police are investigating the matter and suspect a huge network of other bookies in the city as well.
Match fixing has plagued the sport over the years. The latest case being that of Pakistan fast bowlers Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir, and batsman Salman Butt, who have been banned for five years by the International Cricket Council for for fixing parts of a match (spot fixing) against England.
