New Delhi, Sep. 23 (ANI): Delhi Police Commissioner, Y. S Dadwal in a high-level meeting with Home Minister P Chidambaram on Thursday assured that the security arrangements for the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi are foolproof.

“The security arrangement for the Games are absolutely foolproof, there should be no doubt about this at all,” said Dadwal.

Referring to the recent shootout incident that took place near historic Jama Masjid, Dadwal said that the gunmen had not even reached the point where security checkposts had been put up so the question of failed checks did not arise.

“It will have no impact on the Commonwealth Games security, and there was one sting operation, which was bogus in nature, is not correct. At that time … now people are prohibited from reaching that place. Checking was to start at the point from where this person reiterated. He went till where he could but there were no checkpoints there, so how could he be checked?” said Dadwal.

Two Taiwanese tourists had been injured in the shooting on Sunday.

Dadwal gave the assurance that the city’s security has geared for the Games.

“As far as Delhi is concerned, as I said, all possible arrangements have been made. As far as security aspects are concerned, the Games, we are absolutely ready,” he said.

Meanwhile, Rajya Sabha MP Mani Shankar Aiyar, welcomed the appointment of the Union Cabinet Secretary K. M. Chandrashekar as in-charge of the Commonwealth Games Village.

“I hope now that the Union Cabinet Secretary is looking into the matter which I wish happened four years ago, we are being told by K. M. Chandrashekar that everything will be fine, I pray to God that it becomes true,” said Aiyar.

Apart from around 10,000 athletes from 71 teams representing 54 Commonwealth member states, New Delhi is expecting a huge influx of sports enthusiasts and tourists during the games.

The Commonwealth Games 2010 will be held from 3 to 14 October in the Indian capital, New Delhi. (ANI)
