Scheme to pay wages to workers losing jobs
December 15th, 2008 - 10:51 pm ICT by ANI New Delhi, Dec. 15 (ANI):Union Labour Minister Oscar Fernandes said in Lok Sabha here today, workers losing jobs to receive wages for six months under the Rajiv Gandhi Suraksha Yojna social security scheme.
Addressing the Lok Sabha, he said that this scheme has been introduced for immediate relief to the workers.
Fernandes said: We have a scheme under the ESI corporation Rajiv Gandhi Suraksha Yojna under which if an employ who has subscribed for five years he will be getting a 6 months wage half the rate wage for 6 months so that immediately there is a relief to the worker.
Under the Rajiv Gandhi Shramik Kalyan Yojna scheme workers losing employment on account of closure, retrenchment or permanent invalidity arising out of non-employment shall be covered.
They will be provided unemployment allowance in cash equivalent to about 50 per cent of their wage for a maximum period of six months.
They along with their families shall also be eligible to receive medical care at ESIC dispensaries and hospitals.
The benefit is eligible to workers who shall have contributed to Employees Social Insurance Corporation, ESIC, Scheme for at least five years.(ANI)
