New Delhi, Apr 25 (ANI): The Supreme Court today ordered a magisterial probe into allegations that victims of Mirchpur caste violence were being targeted by those accused of killing an elderly Dalit and his daughter in the village.

The apex court passed the order on an application by the victims and their lawyers alleging that they are being targeted by the accused persons. An apex court bench of Justices G S Singhvi and A K Ganguly asked the Chief Judicial Magistrate of Hisar District to conduct the probe and submit a report within two weeks.

The Supreme Court had on March 7 asked the Haryana Government to identify the persons and organisation responsible for staging demonstration against booking of some upper caste people in connection with the Mirchpur caste violence case.

Villagers had been protesting against the booking of 98 members of their community in the case.

Mirchpur village in Hisar district hit the headlines last year when the dominant upper caste Jat members set fire to a row of houses of the Dalit (Balmiki) families on April 21 last year.

A 70-year-old man and his 18-year-old physically challenged daughter were killed in the fire in their home and at least 18 houses were destroyed in the attack. (ANI)
