Sanjay Dutts decision to contest election on SPs ticket upsets sister Priya
January 14th, 2009 - 8:34 pm ICT by ANI Mumbai, Jan.14 (ANI): Congress MP Priya Dutt has said that she is very disappointed over her actor-brother Sanjay Dutt’’s decision to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections on a Sawajwadi Party’’s (SP) ticket.
She said the decision of Sanjay Dutt to contest the election on the Samajwadi Party ticket was his personal decision. She rejected any family feud over it.
“If Sanjay (Sanjay Dutt) wants to stand from Sawajwadi Party (SP) that is his choice, but to say that Congress did not stand by him or was not there with him or he is not happy with the Congress, these accusations should not have been made, Priya Dutt said while addressing a press conference here today.
Meanwhile reacting to the comments of Priya Dutt, Samajwadi Partys General Secretary Amar Singh said that it was wrong to say that the Sawajwadi Party is untouchable as the Congress is in power due to their (SP) support.
“Sawajwadi Party has supported Congress party for last four and a half years, nuclear deal has been possible due to Sawajwadi Party’’s support. After the withdrawal of support by the left parties the government has been sustaining on our support. Therefore to say that Sawajwadi Party is untouchable is wrong,” said Singh.
Amar Singh added that the comments of Priya Dutt showed her ignorance of the fact that Sanjay Dutt had supported the Sawajwadi Party’’s candidate Jaya Prada in Rampur constituency some time back.
“Possibly Priya doesn”t know that when her father Sunil Dutt was a Cabinet Minister, it was during that period Sanjay Dutt had canvassed for the Sawajwadi Party in the parliamentary bi-elections for Jaya Prada in Rampur,” he said. (ANI)
