Gaya, Oct.28 (ANI): An Australian lady, who has adopted Gaya as her second home, is resolutely making a difference in the lives of many village girls in a Naxal affected area here.
Katrina Mount, the Australian native presently residing in Gayas Guraru Block, has taken to social service here. She has dedicated herself to enable the village girls of her locality to become self-dependent through fashion designing and thus training them to be so.
These 25 village girls are local residents of Gurau Block, an area facing neglect of the District administration which contends it is a naxal-dominated area and hence unsafe to work.
Apart from training them in fashion designing, Katrina is also infusing a sense of courage and determination among these girl-trainee.
“The girls are really, really trying to do this work and to learn. The circumstances are a little bit hard with small space and small room. We work on floor with newspapers. But, it’’s all going really well,” said Katrina Mount, Australian social worker.
Katrina is getting cooperation and assistance by all families here. Her courage and volunteering has appealed everyone here. She says that she is unperturbed about Maoists and just minds doing her work.
All girls, who are receiving training under her supervision, are happy to learn designing work from Katrina.
“She has taught us how we can work more, saving on time and how we can set up business. She has told us how we can sell our stuff in the markets and become self-reliant. It is good to learn,” said Pramila Kumari, a trainee.
A group of social workers had earlier initiated a campaign of women empowerment in this area, which is being taken further ahead by Katrina Mount.
These girls are now waiting for their course to complete so that they can take to designing jobs or set up personal outlets at the earlierst. (ANI)
