Etawah, Mar 11 (ANI): Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Mulayam Singh Yadav on Friday said that a list of officers who ‘committed atrocities’ against its workers on the ‘orders’ of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati was being prepared and a case would soon be filed against them.
“We are preparing a list of officers, who beat the protestors. We will not let the matter rest, we will file a case against them,” said Yadav.
Meanwhile, a victim recalling the brutal incident said: “We were beaten in the presence of senior officials and DM. Police stomped on us and dragged us around. We were shocked to see such senior officials behaving in such a manner.”
Uttar Pradesh Police on Tuesday beat up protesting Samajwadi Party (SP) activists, as they blocked roads in Bijnor district.
The SP activists demonstrated in Bijnor city against the state government run by Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP).
Police beat up the protesting activists with batons and detained many of them, while the rest fled the scene.
The police crackdown on the activists resulted in chaos on the highway around Bijnor.
Many buses and other vehicles plying on the highway were stranded, as they could not enter the city.
The SP was on a three-day-long protest between March 7 and 9 over corruption and misgovernance charges of the state government. (ANI)
