Samajwadi Party, Shiv Sena demand action against Raj Thackeray
February 3rd, 2008 - 9:39 pm ICT by admin ( 1 comment )Varanasi/New Delhi, Feb 3 (ANI): Samajwadi Party and Shiv Sena activists have demanded action against Raj Thackeray, a Shiv Sena rebel and the chief of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), for his comments on ‘Chhat’ festival.
Samajwadi Party activists staged a protest in Varanasi on Sunday condemning Raj Thackeray’s statement. Protestors halted ‘Mahanagri Express’ for two hours in Varanasi.
Raj Thackeray had termed ‘Chhat Puja’, the annual festival of Bihar and some parts of Uttar Pradesh, as “drama”.
“By making such statements, Raj Thackeray has tried to divide the nation,” said Ashutosh Sinha, an activist.
Similar protests were witnessed in New Delhi where activists of Shiv Sena, the main opposition party in Maharashtra, demanded immediate arrest of Raj Thackeray.
“Raj Thackeray’s comments have not only insulted lakhs of people living in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, but also others. We request the Home Minister to arrest the person who tries to spurt communal hatred,” said Jai Bhagvan Goyal, the chief of Delhi’s Shiv Sena unit.
Chhat Puja is especially significant for married women who observe a two-day fast and offer prayers standing waist-deep in water for at least two hours and offer their prayers to the Sun God. (ANI)

his whole episode seems to have originated from the mind of a person who has little knowledge about the world. Mr. Raj Thackeray seems to be the most ignorant person in the world about Chhath Puja. By his comments, he has shown disrespect towards the people of Bihar as well as towards the entire creation because it is the solar energy which sustains all of us including Mr. Raj Thackeray and Chhath puja is the worship of Lord Sun (the source of Solar Energy). How can someone call this pious festival a drama? The word Chhath is a compound of two words Chah and Hath. Chah means 6 stages and Hath refers to the science of Hath Yog (austerity). What is Chhath Puja? Chhath Puja is a scientific process of conserving the cosmic energy, balancing its flow, awakening the superhuman powers and transmitting the energy throughout the universe. Through the scientific method of Chhath, we can obtain the solar energy consciously and directly from Sun in greater proportions. During sunrise and sunset periods the ultraviolet radiation levels remain in safe limits. Hence, in Chhath Puja, there is a tradition of offering arghya to Sun in late evening and in early morning. How can anyone have objections to this festival?
