Rise in infiltration from Pakistani side: General Kapoor
January 14th, 2010 - 8:38 pm ICT by ANINew Delhi, Jan 14 (ANI): Army Chief General Deepak Kapoor today said that cross-border infiltration into Jammu and Kashmir in 2009 registered a relative increase.
He further said that infrastructure of terror outfits operating from Pakistan Occupied Kashmir remains intact and 700 terrorists are waiting to cross the Line of Control (LOC).
“The terror infrastructure across the LOC is very much intact and all-out efforts are being made to push inside as many infiltrators as possible. Though mild violent incidents have come down, the attempts of infiltration have gone up,” General Kapoor said.
Speaking at his annual conference ahead of Army Day on Friday, The Army Chief said: “In 2009, the infiltration was higher. While 57 people infiltrated in 2008, the number rose to 110 by November 2009.”
Commenting on reduction of troops in Jammu and Kashmir, he said the decision to reduce the troops has been taken after all considerations.
General Kapoor added that current troop level is enough to ensure peaceful environment despite attempts of turbulence from other side of the border. (ANI)
