New York , Sept 27 (ANI): The US and Pakistan must endeavour to deal with the growing tensions between their troops standoff at the Pak-Afghan border over the past few weeks. Tensions emerged between the US and Pakistani troops after the recent US air and ground strikes on Pakistani soil aimed at eliminating terrorists, but which eventually killed a host of civilians.
Theres a very strong view that this is a problem that has got to be dealt with. And were going to work very closely with this democratically elected government of Pakistan, the Dawn quoted Rice as telling reporters in New York after meeting with visiting Pakistan President Zardari
Only on Thursday, Pakistani security forces had fired at two NATO helicopters which had intruded into Pakistan territory, forcing them to return to Afghanistan .
About her meeting with Zardari, Rice said: We talked about how we might assist Pakistan in doing what it needs to do. But I think theres a very strong commitment. And after all, its the same enemy.
On the other hand, addressing press persons after meeting Rice in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session, Zardari said that the US and Pakistan were working together to overcome the weaknesses they confront in the war against terror.
Zardari said that the US and Pakistan had always discussed weaknesses in the war on terror and how to turn them into our strength. (ANI)
