Melbourne, Nov 9 (ANI): The venue is an important part of a marriage, but now more and more couples are opting for a no-fuss wedding, choosing to tie the knot in a registry office.
This new trend has seen the Brisbane registry office become one of the most popular wedding venues in the state.
With the financial crisis going on, the registry office is fast becoming popular as a wedding venue for couples who want to save cash, seeing about 1300 couples wed at the inner-city venue during the past financial year.
In just the past four months 522 couples have pledged their marital vows there, increasing the number of marriages to 111 more than the same time last year.
Attorney-General and Justice Minister Kerry Shine said the venue appealed to people tightening their financial belts.
It costs 235 dollars for a weekday wedding and 290 dollars on Saturdays, a tenth of the amount the average couple spent on their big day last year, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics.
Registry office weddings have been given a bad serve by the movies and couples are always surprised at the facilities, the Courier Mail quoted Shine as saying.
Demand for the venue peaked on August 8 this year when a record 33 couples, who deemed the date good luck, wed at the registry.
Stafford Heights couple Angela Finlayson and Brad Gunton wed at the Brisbane registry office last week.
The new Gunton said the registry office was an affordable, no-fuss option. (ANI)
