Police records reveal that six Bangladeshi nationals with ISI links have been arrested in the state since March this year. While one suspected HuJI cadre Mamun Mian was arrested from Ramnagar area in Agartala on March 27, it was later found that he was also wanted in a bomb blast case at Shibpur in Kolkata in January this year.
Mian was staying in a rented house here for quite some time and had obtained a ration card and other documents under an assumed name, Suman Mazumdar.
Significantly, Shahid Choudhury, a senior member in the Manik Sarkar Cabinet, had to resign on April 17 this year due to his alleged links with Mamun Mian.
The police had only last month submitted its charge sheet against Mian, who is currently lodged in a jail here.
In April, the police had arrested three more Bangladeshi nationals Sirajul Islam, Sayed Hussain and Mohammed Kabir from Pratapgarh area under West Agartala police station. Two of these Bangladeshis had infiltrated into Tripura and were staying illegally in the state, while one had entered India with a forged visa. (ANI)
