New Delhi, Nov 17(ANI): Amidst media speculations that Rajnath Singh may quit early, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president on Tuesday said that he is not averse to quitting early, if there is a consensus on his successor.
Addressing the media in the national capital, Singh, whose tenure ends on December 31, said that he would sit with his colleagues to find an early solution.
“There should be efforts that it happens as soon as possible. But I will sit with all my colleagues and hold discussions to reach a consensus,” Singh said.Singh further said that change of responsibility is a natural thing and it would be done with party’s consensus.
“As far as the question of BJP is concerned, change of responsibility is a natural process. As it is, my tenure is getting over and new president has to take over the work. And, whenever change of responsibility takes place in the party, it would be done after a consensus and the information will be passed on to you,” he added.
However, Singh said that he would abide by any consensus arrived by the party on the issue.
He also highlighted that he is a party worker and would continue to work for party’s ideology in the coming years.
“As far as question of coming years is concerned we are all workers of the party. We are committed to the ideology of the party and we will continue working for the party’s ideology for our whole life with a firm conviction,” Singh said.
According to reports, Maharashtra unit chief of BJP Nitin Gadkari is a strong contender for the post of the party chief.
Gadkari is likely to be the next BJP President by the year-end and is being backed by Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS). (ANI)
