Rajasthan Government withdraws cases against GujjarsNovember 14th, 2007 - 10:27 am ICT by admin
After a meeting with Gujjar leaders, including Gujjar Reservation Action Committee Convenor Col Kirodi Singh Bainsla, the State Government on Friday decided to withdraw cases pending in various courts against Gujjars in connection with the violence that left 25 people dead.
In addition, four cases lodged at Hindon last year against 33 people have also been withdrawn.
In the last few months, Gujjars have held huge demonstrations in the State demanding ST status.
They were further annoyed that the Rajasthan Government extended the term of the Chopra Committee set up to look into the Gujjars’ demands by three months just before its expiry in September.
The Justice Jasraj Chopra Committee was appointed as per the agreement reached between the community and the State Government, to pacify the violent agitation by Gujjars in June. (ANI)
