July 3rd, 2009 - 5:53 pm ICT by GD ( Leave a comment )
The Union Railways Minister Mamata Banerjee presented the Rail Budget in the Parliament today. The minister focused on passenger amenities, safety and security.
Beautification and development plans for major stations were announced. The pro-people flavor as promised by the minister prevailed through out the budget presentation. From ATMs at stations, new railways information systems, ticket booking at Post Office to the launch of a scheme called ‘Izzat’, all were focused towards the common man.
But the industrial sector should also be happy as the minister has refrained from raising the freight rates. Passenger fare rates have also been kept unchanged. She has also announced a concession of 60% for students on Metro Rail. Accredited Journalists and their spouse would also get a concession of 50%.
