Puducherry polls: Congress manifesto promises incentives, concessions
April 1st, 2011 - 4:02 pm ICT by ANIPuducherry, Apr 1 (ANI): The Congress election manifesto for the upcoming assembly polls in Puducherry today promised a slew of incentives and concessions to various sections of people.
Releasing the 16-page manifesto, PCC President A.V. Subramanian said the Congress, if voted to power again, would ensure equitable development in all four enclaves.
The manifesto said the new government would provide either a refrigerator or water purifier to households in the Union Territory.
The manifesto also promises free mobile phones to all families whose annual income is less than 75000 rupees.
The party also promised that the Centre would be urged to grant special category status to Puducherry and raise the strength of the Assembly from present 30 members to 40.
Emergency Ambulance 108 service would be introduced in the whole of the Union territory.
Other salient features of the manifesto include, the Rajiv Gandhi Health Insurance scheme, now being implemented for the BPL families, will be extended to all, 20 kg free rice presently provided through PDS to BPL families will be increased to 35 kg per month, increase in Pensions to aged/widows and destitute and At least one employment for each family in the Union Territory.
The manifesto also promised to set up a Lokayukta to prevent corruption among government employees.
Subramanian said the Congress would strive to fulfill the expectations to all sections of society.
Congress is contesting polls in alliance with Dravida Munnettra Kazhagam (DMK) and has fielded candidates in 17 of the 30 seats.
Being a small Union Territory with an electorate of just over eight lakh ten thousand voters, candidates rely on direct contacts with the voters.
