Kochi/ Moradabad, Apr 3 (ANI): Family members of cricketers S. Sreesanth and Piyush Chawla expressed their happiness and joy after India’s victory over Sri Lanka in the World Cup final on Saturday.

Sreesanth’s father, Santhakumaran Nair, said India’s win was the outcome of teamwork and also the grace of God.

“We are very happy along with all the Indians because we got the Cup with teamwork and this success is out of god’s grace,” said Nair.

Meanwhile, family members of Chawla, celebrated India’s victory with full elation and happiness in Moradabad.

Rajeev Gandhi, a friend of Chawla said he was thankful to Indian team for getting the cup home after 28 years.

“I am very thankful to all players and thank them that they made India proud in the whole world,” he added.

India scripted a glorious new chapter in their cricketing history last night by regaining the coveted Cricket World Cup after 28 years. The last World Cup victory for India came against the West Indies in 1983 at Lords in England.

In the nerve-wrecking summit clash of the 2011 edition of the ICC Cricket World Cup tournament at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, India beat Sri Lanka by six wickets.

With this win, India has become the first nation to win the World Cup on home soil.

The win was also a fitting farewell to coach Gary Kirsten, for whom it was his last day as Indian coach. (ANI)
