Protests in North Kashmir over encounter killing
October 25th, 2009 - 3:02 pm ICT by ANISrinagar, Oct 25 (ANI): Parts of north Kashmir witnesses massive protest on Sunday over killing of a 25 year old man when a soldier opened fire at him after he ignored a warning to stop at a security check post.
On Saturday, a person identified as Sajad, was killed in Rafiabad town when the security personnel opened fire at him.
However, the police claimed that the man did not heed the sentry at the army bunker, attacked the guard on the gate with an axe.
In the scuffle that ensued, the guard’s gun discharged, killing Sajad instantly and injuring the jawan, police added.
But the locals and family maintain that Sajad was killed and demanded an inquiry into the incident.
Meanwhile, the police have registered two separate cases–a murder case against the security personnel and an attempt to murder case against the dead person. (ANI)
