Protest against the highhandedness of militants in Manipur
November 19th, 2008 - 8:39 pm ICT by ANIImphal, Nov.19 (ANI): Having suffered militancy for a long time, people in the north-east are now well aware about the malicious intentions of ultras here.
People from all walks of life in Manipur state are now coming out and showing their disapproval of the highhandedness of the militant groups, as was witnessed in Imphal recently.
A number of local residents here recently staged a demonstration to protest against the placing of a bomb by unidentified militants at the residence of Loukham Mani Singh, a jewellery shop owner here in Wahengbam area.
People expressed their resentment at the jointly organized protest by Kangabam Leikai Apunba Nupi Marup, Naharol Welfare Club and Kangabam Leikai Development organisations.
L. Sarojini Devi, the victim, said: The news of planting bomb at our residence has really shocked us. Hearing the news, our father-in-law received a shock and passed away. Plans for the marriage of our child have been ruined. We are really devastated.” H.Sanatombi Devi, Local, Manipur
“Everyone has now come out openly against the militants and if such activities continue, all the civilians will be affected. Even if they ban us from sitting on protest and going for the rally, we will come out openly not even fearing about our lives.”
Everyone knows that the militant groups wish to keep everyone terrorized with threats of kidnappings or to serve their personal ambitions. They have nothing to do with fighting for public issues.
Because of these development people want to take to public protests to show their growing aguish against such ultra groups with the help of non-governmental organizations or other organisations now. (ANI)
