- Srinagar, Nov 7(ANI): Police were compelled to use tear gas and air firing on Saturday to disperse violent mobs protesting against the death of a local youth.
The youth took to the streets after a body of a man, identified as Mohammed Yaqoob, was recovered on Saturday morning.
The dead body of Yaqoob, who used to sell barbecues at Lal Chowk in Maisuma, was recovered from a shed where he used to sell meat preparations.
After Yaqoob’s body was sent for post-mortem, the youth took to the streets and enforced a shutdown.
Police fired teargas shells and baton charged the protesters to control the agitating mob, which had damaged many vehicles during the protest. Many people including some media persons were also injured during the incident.
Meanwhile, Senior Superintendent of Police of Srinagar, Javed Bedaar, has assured that the police have registered a case and commenced the investigation.
“Investigation is being carried on and hopefully, we will get the culprits soon,” Javed Bedaar said. (ANI)
