New Delhi, Jan.28 (ANI): The Chief Election Commissioner N. Gopalaswami on Wednesday said that the Election Commission of India (ECI) is yet to meet to discuss the dates of Lok Sabha elections, however, the process regarding decision on dates of General Elections will begin next week.
With the Election Commission convening a meeting of political parties on February 3, the process regarding decision over the dates of the General Elections will begin next week, the CEC stated.
“The Commission is first meeting the political parties on February 3rd, Chief Electoral Officers on the 4th , the DGPs and Chief Secretaries on the 5th,” Chief Election Commissioner N. Gopalaswami told reporters at the Institute of Social Sciences at New Delhi on Wednesday.
Gopalaswami told reporters that some more meetings were scheduled for February 6 after which the Election Commission would discuss the possible dates (for the General Elections) .
“Then on sixth some more meetings are there. After that we will sit down and take note of what is available — the forces and what are the phasings possible. Then we will come out with the dates,” the CEC Gopalaswami said.
The term of the 14th Lok Sabha expires in May and announcement of the poll schedule is expected soon. (ANI)
