New Delhi, June 25 (ANI): President Pratibha Patil will launch the E-passport scheme here today.
The E-passport, also called biometric passports, will carry a chip that will have entire personal information, including fingerprints, of the holder in a chip.
These passports will initially be launched for diplomats and high-ranking government and will gradually be rolled on for the aam aadmi.
The E-passport will carry the biological features and facial imprints of a holder and will be at par with international civil aviation standards.
The step is aimed at curbing misuse of passport, including through impersonation and make immigration process easier. (ANI)
