President Patil inaugurates national festival of tribal dances
March 16th, 2011 - 10:09 pm ICT by ANINew Delhi, Mar 16 (ANI): President Pratibha Devisingh Patil on Wednesday inaugurated ‘Prakriti’, the three-day national festival of tribal dances.
The Ministry of Tribal Affairs in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture has organized the festival.
Minister of Tribal Affairs Kantilal Bhuria welcomed the guests and also enlightened them with the initiatives that are being undertaken for the conservation and development of Scheduled Tribes and their culture.
Bhuria further informed that for strengthening education among Scheduled Tribe Students, a scheme of ‘Pre-Matric’ scholarship is being started. Under the scheme, a budget of Rs. 50 crore has been allocated for the year 2011-12.
Culture Minister Kumari Selja apprised that the Ministry has constituted a Committee to supervise the work of seven State cultural centres that came into being with the initiation of former Prime Minister Late Rajiv Gandhi for the conservation and development of various folk arts.
Prakriti - the integrated event is a joint initiative of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Tribal Co-operative Marketing Development Federation of India Limited (TRIFED) and the Ministry of Culture to present tribal art and culture in a holistic manner.
The Ministry of Culture brings in performing tribal troupes from different parts of the country to make the event a unique blend of tribal art and culture.
Tribal Dances being presented in Prakriti give glimpses of various art forms. The programme was followed by the distribution of Awards of the Fourth National Level Photographic Competition, 2010 under the title ‘Artistic Expression of Tribal Women’. (ANI)
