New Delhi, Mar 6 (ANI): President Pratibha Patil on Thursday accepted the resignation of S M Krishna as Maharashtra Governor and appointed Goa Governor S C Jamir to discharge additional duties of Maharashtra Governor.
Former Karnataka Chief Minister S M Krishna resigned as Maharashtra’s Governor to return to active politics in his home state.
S M Krishna left state politics after the 2004 Assembly Elections, when the Congress was forced to form a coalition with the Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S) to stay in power.
On Tuesday, a full bench of the Election Commission met senior political leaders of the state to assess the situation in the run up to the polls.
Karnataka has been under Governor’s Rule since November 2007 and constitutionally, elections are to be held by May 2008. (ANI)
