Mohali, Feb 17 (ANI): Bollywood actress Preity Zinta and industrialist Ness Wadia today announced the coach as well as the icon player for the Mohali team of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
They named Yuvraj Singh as the icon player of the Mohali team, meeting the requirement in the scheme of the Twenty20 IPL.
Zinta reiterated her faith in India’s star cricketer Yuvraj Singh, despite the Left-hand batsman being out of form in the on-going Australian tour.
“I don’t think we have any problem with Yuvraj. He is rocking and we love him. He is still the same player, who has hit six sixes in an over, and now if he is not in form for a while it’s not a big concern for us. I am sure that when he comes to Mohali and plays he will play like a Yuvraj (crown prince),” said Zinta.
Both Zinta and Wadia announced to the media at Mohali stadium about the selection of the coach.
“We have selected Tom Moody as the coach of the team and he has accepted the offer,” said Wadia.
Moody, 42, a member of two World Cup-winning Australian teams, coached Sri Lanka for two years before leaving in May last year to take up the reins for Western Australia.
The league, expected to feature many of the game’s top players, is an effort to counter an unofficial Indian Twenty20 league, which began late last year.
Eleven companies — some a consortium of individuals — were in the race to own teams from a choice of 12 cities where the franchises would be based.
Mohali went for 76 million dollars to a syndicate that included Zinta, while media group Deccan Chronicle won Hyderabad for 107.01 million dollars.
Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan was part of the consortium that clinched Kolkata for 75.09 million dollars, while infrastructure company GMR Holdings won the Delhi franchise for 84 million dollars. Vijay Mallya’s UB group got the franchise for Bangalore at 111.6 million dollars and Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries Limited got Mumbai at 111.9 million dollars. (ANI)
