Gorakhpur, Jan 5 (ANI): Uttar Pradesh Police have launched a massive identification drive in Gorakhpur almost eight months after a serial blasts rocked the town.
The identification drive also comes in the wake of recent terror attacks in the State and the investigations revealing that the accused in one of the blasts had links with the city.
An alert has been sounded along with the launching of an identification drive.
“The first thing is that all criminal elements in the region will come under the scanner,” said K. Satyanarayan, SSP, Gorakhpur.
To register the information, the police is preparing a list by filling up two kinds of forms one meant for tenants while another is for servants along with their photographs.
People are extending their full co-operation to ensure that the verification process goes on smoothly.
“The whole process is to be appreciated and we have no hassles with that. The co-operation of people is a must and we are not interfering in the process. It is for our benefit,” said Shailesh Pandey, a tenant.
“The verification is important. It is undertaken to ensure that terrorists don’t take shelter here,” said Meena Chaudhry, another resident of the city.
The increasing incidence of terror acts including the Gorakhpur serial blasts, blasts in the court premises in the three cities of Lucknow, Faizabad and Varanasi and the very recent attack on the Rampur paramilitary camp have set alarm bells ringing. (ANI)
