Porter swims with tied limbs to create awareness about water pollution in Kerala
December 13th, 2009 - 10:32 pm ICT by ANI ( Leave a comment )Kochi, Dec 13(ANI): The ongoing Copenhagen climate Change Summit has encouraged a daily wage head loader in Kerala to swim with tied hands and legs to create awareness about water pollution.
P.G Santosh achieved this unique feat on Saturday, and said that he did it to create awareness about water pollution in the state and also to create a new record.
“I did it to create awareness about water pollution. People have really started considering our rivers and backwaters as a waste box. I have seen people dumping waste in the rivers. All this can be easily avoided. These days one cannot enter these polluted water bodies,” Santosh said.
Santosh swam from Varzhapurzha to the Ernakulam High Court Boat Jetty.
He successfully completed the 13 kilometre long stretch along the Kochi backwaters in around four hours.
Santosh, an amateur swimmer, loves adventure and had set many records before attempting this latest one.
A head load worker at the Food Corporation of India’s Angamaly depot, Santosh described water pollution as a major threat to long-term human welfare. (ANI)
