Ponting expresses satisfaction over security arrangementsSeptember 30th, 2008 - 4:58 pm ICT by ANI
Hyderabad, Sept.30 (ANI): Security arrangements are satisfactory, says Ricky Ponting, the skipper of Australian cricket team which is visiting India for a Test and One-day series. Addressing news conference here on Tuesday, ahead of the four-day match with President’’s Eleven, Ponting said: “We haven”t actually sat down together as a group and spoken about the situation in Delhi. All we have done is basically (to keep) in touch with the security people around Australia and the world to let us know what to think about security issues. At the moment they are comfortable with the level of the security we are being provided here. Most of the players are also comfortable with it as well. So all we can do is to play and rely on the experts to let us know what is happening.”
Expressing confidence in his much talked about young but an inexperienced team against hosts India, Ponting said that they would play a brand of cricket that would help them in winning the test series.
“There is no difference in feeling for us what so ever. We go into every game that we play confident that we can play at a certain level and then when we play a t a level somewhere near our best, it’’s good enough to beat anyone that we are playing against. And I think even in last four-five months when we have been missing some of our more experienced players, I think we have still managed to show that our best cricket is good enough to beat everybody. So, that’’s what we are aiming to do here. We are aiming to prepare ourselves the best way we can to give ourselves the best chance to playing in the first test. We know that the Indians will play well, they know the conditions well. We know that at the moment, they are probably a more experienced side than us but if you look back at the last summer in Australia, we still managed to play a brand of cricket that was good enough to win us test series. We then went to the West Indies and the same thing happened there so we are confident with the younger faces around, the group they are going to be good enough and they are still going to be good enough to stand up in test match cricket here in India,”said Ponting.
The Australian team are awaiting a security update from Cricket Australia after a bomb blast killed two people and wounded 18 in a New Delhi market place last Saturday.
Australia decided to go ahead with the tour after a security review following blasts in the Indian capital on September 13 that killed at least 20 people and injured more than 90.
Australia’’s planned tour of Pakistan and this year’’s Champions Trophy in Pakistan were both postponed because of security fears.
The Test series will begin from October 9 in southern city of Bangalore on followed by matches in Mohali (October 17-21), Delhi (October 29-November 2) and in Nagpur (November 5-9). (ANI)
