Polling underway for fourth phase of West Bengal elections
May 3rd, 2011 - 11:22 am ICT by ANIKolkata, May 3 (ANI): Polling for the fourth phase of Assembly elections in West Bengal for 63 constituencies is going on today.
The voting, which started at 7 a.m. will continue till 5 p.m.
Voting is taking place in Howrah Hooghly, East Midnapore and parts of Burdwan districts in which over 1.26 crore electorates will decide the fate of 366 candidates
Prominent candidates, whose fate would be decided in this phase, include Industry Minister Nirupam Sen and Higher Education Minister Sudarshan Roy Chowdhury,Food Processing Minister Mohanta Chatterjee, Minister of State for Information and Culture Soumendranath Bera, Technical Education Minister Chakradhar Maikap, Agriculture minister Naren Dey and Fire Services Minister Pratim Chatterjee.
Tight security arrangements have been made in all the districts to ensure free, fair and peaceful election.
Altogether 15,711 polling booths have been set up in four districts. Besides one special observer 42 general, nine expenditure and four police observers are constantly monitoring the poll process.
Of the six phased elections in West Bengal, three have been completed on April 18, 23 and 27.The fifth phase will take place on May 7 and sixth on May 10. (ANI)
