Polling begins for Rajender Nagar Assembly constituency
December 13th, 2008 - 11:56 am ICT by ANI New Delhi, Dec 13 (ANI): Polling has begun in the Rajendra Nagar Assembly constituency in West Delhi here today.
The polling was rescheduled after the death of the BJP candidate, Puran Chand Yogi.
According to the Delhi Electoral Office, voting is being held in 160 polling stations of the constituency.
Yogi, 73, was a three-time BJP legislator from Rajinder Nagar. He was seeking re-election for the third time from the seat.
He was first elected to the Assembly in 1993 and was re-elected in 1998 and 2003. In the last Assembly polls, he had defeated Raj Kumar Kohli of Congress by 891 votes.
According to police officials, Yogi was found hanging from the ceiling fan of his room on November 16 at his residence in South-West Delhi’’s Inderpuri. (ANI)
