Guwahati, Nov 23(ANI): Members of several political parties protested in Guwahati on Monday against the deteriorating law and order situation in areas dominated by ethnic Bodo people.

The protest was led by the Bodoland People’s Progressive Front (BPPF) and other parties that took part included the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Communist Party of India (CPI) and the state’s main opposition party, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP).

The protestors were demanding security for people of the Bodoland Territorial Autonomous District (BTAD) and workers of other parties.

The BPPF leaders have also given a memorandum to Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, to book the culprits involved in the recent killings in the BTAD.

BPPF chief Rabiramm Narzary said that if the Government does not take any appropriate action to prevent rise of new extremism, the future of Assam will be in danger.

“If the Government does not takes any appropriate action to save the rise of new extremism within the political party like BPF then I think future of Assam is in danger. It will be dangerous for entire people from all sections of Assam,” Narzary said.

Earlier on November 21, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) had demanded the resignation of Gogoi, saying that the law and order situation in areas dominated by ethnic Bodo people was alarming.

Recently at least eight persons were killed within seven days in the autonomous district. (ANI)
