Political leaders condole Sathya Sai Baba’s death

New Delhi/ Puttaparthi, Apr 24 (ANI): Cutting across party lines, leaders of various political outfits condoled the demise of prominent religious leader Sri Sathya Sai Baba, who passed away at Puttaparthi in Andhra Pradesh’s Anantapur District on Sunday morning due to cardio-respiratory failure.
“The news of Sathya Sai Baba’s demise this morning has plunged the whole world into deaf sorrows. India is a country where since time immemorial the highest respect commanded by the leadership of society is in the spiritual field,” said Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) veteran L.K.Advani.
“In modern India, there would be few who would have phenomenal following that Sathya Sai Baba had. I first came in contact with him during Emergency in Bangalore. I have been meeting him frequently and the meetings have been inspirational for me. It was guiding. I last met him in Puttaparthi few months back. The nation has been plunged in darkness. I offer homage to this great soul. I would like to go for the last rites,” he added.
Congress President Sonia Gandhi has also condoled passing away of the Baba.
Meanwhile, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi tweeted: “I pay my tributes to Pujya Satya Sai Baba on his Nirvana.”
All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) chief J. Jayalalithaa said that Sathya Sai Baba’s death is a huge loss to the mankind.
Former Union Home Minister and Punjab Governor Shivraj Patil said the Baba was a great soul.
“What he did is very important for helping the people who were suffering from disease and to educate them,” he said.
Sai Baba, who was 85, breathed his last at 7.40 a.m. at the Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences,
His body will be kept at the Sai Kulwant Hall for two days for people to pay their homage to the spiritual guru. (ANI)
