Amritsar, July 22 (ANI): Amritsar Police have seized seven kilograms of heroin from four people, including one Pakistan national. Acting on a tip off, a police squad nabbed the four smugglers including one Muneer Ahmed from Pakistan as they were trying to strike a deal for the contraband.
The heroin was being smuggled through the riverside area of Ferozpur, bordering Pakistan, said Amritsar District’’s Senior Superintendent of Police, Tulsi Ram.
India is viewed as a major transit point for drug smuggling to the West. Heroin is derived from morphine, a naturally occurring substance extracted from the seedpod of the Asian poppy plant, and is marketed as a white or brown powder. (ANI)
